Different Bets for Different Game Formats

Even though the core of the game remains the same (a bat, a ball, three stumps, and two teams of eleven), cricket as you know it is always changing as each year passes.

Before moving onto anything else, we must separate domestic cricket from international cricket so we all can be on the same page.

The Long Game

There’s nothing quite like a Test match, the longest format ever, played over fifteen sessions over the course of five days with 90 overs scheduled to be bowled each day. This can be some of the most challenging cricket matches you’ll ever witness, due to the constantly changing conditions on the field. The pitch may start nicely on Wednesday, but by Sunday, that wicket is going to be chewed up, which can trigger additional trouble for the batsman as spin bowlers use it to their advantage on every ball. Cloudier and more humid conditions can also make batting more difficult, since the ball reacts more in such conditions. Surviving through this tough period can be very rewarding if you can make it to the afternoon session, when the sun is out, the ball is older and the bowler is tired.

In short-format cricket matches, such as ODI and T20, there’s not enough time for conditions to change that drastically. It is for this reason why the best Test match players are often considered the most skilled. Because of the constantly changing conditions, the scorecard can look completely different from one day to the next, sometimes even in the same session.

The Short Game

The T20 version of cricket is becoming more and more popular, with many international tournaments taking away from ODIs or even Test matches to give us more of the T20 matches. It didn’t take long for TV people to realise that T20 format is exactly what most 21st-century sports fans want, which naturally caused an explosion in the number of games played.

Never see a missed chance as a personal failure, because skipping a bet is sometimes the smartest thing to do. If you aren’t sure, keep your money, wait for the next game and keep an eye on things, maybe things will change. And most importantly, never try to make up for losses, because that’s when things usually go south.
